This event was the largest gathering of artists from the book so far this year!

Jersey Shore history was discussed at the "Down Barnegat Bay: Sesquicentennial Symposium" at Point Pleasant Branch of Ocean County Library, 834 Beaver Dam Road, (732) 295-1555.

Author Robert Jahn presented a slide show and signed copies of his new 248 page hardbound edition of "Down Barnegat Bay: A Nor'easter Midnight Reader," recently released by Plexus Publishing.

   Several other regional authors were present to sign copies of their recent books, including: Mary Ware Birkhead, "Manasquan, Vol. II;" Howard P. Boyd, "A Field Guide to the Pine Barrens of New Jersey;" Patricia Burke, "Barnegat Bay Decoys;" Gene Donatiello, "Brick Township;" Frank Finale, "To The Shore Once More;" Pauline S. Miller, "Ocean County: Four Centuries in the Making;" Robert Peterson, "Patriots, Pirates and Pineys;" and Jerry Woolley, "Point Pleasant, Vol. III."

  Ocean County's Sesquicentennial celebration was featured in a panel discussion with representatives from regional cultural, historical and environmental organizations. Efforts to restore Island Beach State Park's 1899 U.S. Life Saving Station No. 14 were explored by Park Superintendent William C. Vibbert and Supervisor of State Historical Sites Paul Taylor.

   Captain John Lott Dorsett's 1880 "Historical Cabinet Made from Pieces of 26 Shipwrecks" was exhibited, along with nautical artifacts from private collections and antiquarian Jersey Coast maps donated by the late Arthur Johnson.

   "We're getting together to honor the Jersey Shore's maritime heritage and pay tribute to Ocean County's 150th anniversary," said the host, Robert Jahn.

   The symposium, part of the continuing "Travelling Through Time" cultural series produced by Robert Jahn at the library, was free and open to all.

   "This special program is a highlight of the "Time" series and the ongoing 75th anniversary of Ocean County Library," said Barbara Kaden, Head Librarian. "Advance registration was requested to reserve a seat," she added.

He read from his popular books "To The Shore Once More, Volumes I & II" and was available to sign books and meet readers during and after the event. Also appearing at the event was folk singer Larry Fix (at 12:30 PM), poet Betty Spinner, folk singer Spook Handy, and poet Charlie Mosler (at 2:00 PM). In addition, the public enjoyed the poetic and musical renderings of Kenneth Little Hawk, who has captivated audiences at Lincoln and Kennedy Centers. Also appearing was nationally recognized pop-folk artist Nancy Falkow, poet Joe Weil, and folk singer Diedre Flint.

Editor and Publisher George C. Valente was pleased to announce the Public Book Premier Party for "To The Shore Once More, Volume II."

   Hosted by Barnes & Noble of Brick, all were invited to attend and enjoy the day.

   Gourmet hors d'oeuvres, desserts, and beverages were served by Certified Pastry Chef Jill Geraghty and the wonderful caterers from MaMa D's Deli in Brick.

   Exquisite classic guitar music was played throughout the day by Francis Perry of Manasquan.

   Attending were author Frank Finale and twenty-one of the forty-one artists featured in the book including:

   This was the premier event for the new book! An afternoon of literary and artistic pleasure was had by all!
